PROMACTA is a thrombopoietin receptor agonist used for the treatment of indicated thrombocytopenia: • Thrombocytopenia in adults and children with chronic immune (idiopathic) thrombocytopenia (ITP) for more than 1 year who had to respond inadequately to corticosteroids, immunoglobulin, or splenectomy. • Thrombocytopenia patients with chronic hepatitis C to allow the initiation and maintenance of interferon based therapies. • A case of severe aplastic anemia who had inadequate response to immunosuppressive therapy. Altrepompa is an oral, bioavailable, small-molecule TPO receptor agonist that interacts with the transmembrane domain of human TPO receptors and initiates the induction of proliferation and differentiation from bone marrow progenitor cell signaling cascades. PROMACTA should only be used in patients with ITP whose degree of thrombocytopenia and clinical circumstances increase the risk of bleeding. •PROMACTA should be used only in patients with chronic hepatitis C, whose thrombocytopenia is to a degree that prevents interferon based therapy from being initiated or restricted to maintain the ability of interferon based therapy to be used. Safety and efficacy antiviral agents of no direct action have been established in combination with interferon for the treatment of chronic hepatitis C infection.
