肾癌是起源于肾实质泌尿小管上皮系统的恶性肿瘤，学术名词全称为肾细胞癌，又称肾腺癌，简称为肾癌。包括起源于泌尿小管不同部位的各种肾细胞癌亚型，但不包括来源于肾间质的肿瘤和肾盂肿瘤。早在1883年德国的病理学家Grawitz根据显微镜下看癌细胞形态类似于肾上腺细胞，提出肾癌是残存于肾脏内的肾上腺组织起源学说，故我国改革开放前的书籍中将肾癌称为Grawitz瘤或肾上腺样瘤。直到1960年才由Oberling根据电子显微镜的观察结果，提出肾癌起源于肾的近曲小管，才纠正了这个错误。

Renal carcinoma is a malignant tumor originating from the renal parenchyma urinary tubule epithelial system. It is called renal cell carcinoma, renal adenocarcinoma, and renal carcinoma for short. Various subtypes of renal cell carcinoma originating from different parts of the urinary tubules were included, but tumors originating from the renal interstitium and pelvis were not included. As early as 1883, Grawitz, a German pathologist, put forward the theory that renal cancer is the origin of adrenal tissue remaining in the kidney according to the morphology of cancer cells similar to adrenal cells under the microscope. Therefore, renal cancer was called Grawitz tumor or adrenal like tumor in books before China's reform and opening up. It was not until 1960 that Oberling corrected this error by suggesting, based on electron microscope observations, that renal cancer originated in the proximal convoluted tubules of the kidney.
